The Big Game
There are many commercials on television advertising ‘the big game.’ Why are some retailers referring to the Super Bowl as the ‘big game’ or the ‘championship game’?
It is because these large retailers are not official sponsors of the Super Bowl or the NFL so they are not allowed to use the term ‘Super Bowl’ due to copy write infringement. Copy write infringement is the unauthorized use of someone else’s product. By advertising their products for ‘the big game,’ companies can still bring in big bucks without paying them out to the NFL.
As an official NFL sponsor, a company has the right to use the official Super Bowl logo, league logos, and the right to use the terms ‘Super Bowl’ and ‘Super Sunday’ in their advertisements. The cost to be an official sponsor of the Super Bowl could cost more than a million dollars.
