A mysterious murder occurred at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland on New Years Day.  The victim was a 40-year-old man and hospital employee.  The man had been assaulted and was discovered New Year’s morning in an area off limits to patients and visitors.

“Attempts to save the employee’s life by hospital staff were unsuccessful…” Ronna Borenstein-Levy, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.

Police were dispatched to the hospital after receiving a report of a stabbing.  It has not yet been confirmed if the victim was stabbed to death, only that his upper body sustained severe trauma.

The hospital was placed on lockdown for more than three hours.  Police, accompanied by a search dog, investigated the premises.  After searching every room and checking everyone’s identification, the lockdown ended.  No murderer or suspect was found and the case is being treated as a homicide.  Currently, the police believe there is no threat to the patients or employees at the hospital.
