Baylor Basketball Player Takes a Permanent Time-Out

LaceDarius Dunn is taking a permanent time-out from college basketball.  Dunn, a senior guard at Baylor University, was suspended from the basketball team on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 for a felony aggravated assault charge.  Dunn was arrested for allegedly hitting his girlfriend Lacharlesla Edwards during a domestic dispute last week and breaking her jaw in two places.

Waco police were called to Hillcrest Hospital on September 27 to investigate assault charges on Edwards.  Police say that Edwards admitted in the hospital that she and her boyfriend LaceDarius Dunn had gotten into an altercation and that Dunn punched her in the face.

Edwards does not want to press charges against Dunn but the state does.  Edwards now claims that Dunn did not hit her and that her jaw is not broken.  Edwards wants the charges against Dunn to be dropped and she wishes for Dunn to be reinstated on the basketball team.

Baylor basketball coach Scott Drew is not speculating whether or not Dunn will be back on the team this season.   Dunn was an All Big 12 pick last year and led the Baylor basketball team in scoring during the NCAA regional finals.

If convicted Dunn could spend between two and ten years in a Texas prison and be fined up to $10,000.
